SUN RIVER LODGE

Sun River Kalahari Lodge, near Upington in the centre of the Green Kalahari (or Southern Kalahari), is a luxury resort and boutique hotel on the banks of the Orange River. Although some of the rooms at Sun River Lodge are equipped with kitchenettes, the emphasis is on enjoying the warm Kalahari hospitality – including delicious meals served in the exclusive restaurant.

Sun River Kalahari Lodge offers 16 beautifully decorated en suite rooms, all equipped with extra-length beds, coffe/tea-making facilities, air-conditioning, DSTV, hair dryer, safe and a bathroom to dream about. If you need a fridge, the staff at Sun River Lodge will only be too happy to oblige. Seven rooms overlook the perfectly manicured garden and river.

BOTSWANA

Botswana is just two hours north of Upington. If you are travelling from Cape Town on your way to the Okavango Delta in Botswana you will most likely stay in Kang on your first night in Botswana. Lodges such as Kang Ultra Stop, Nkisi and Kalahari Rest are affordable yet still of a high standard. In Ghanzi, which is generally known as the gateway to the Kalahari the Kalahari Arms Hotel with its rich history will be a perfect hotel. If you prefer something more authentically African, Thakadu Camp just five km from Ghanzi on a private game reserve and will be your lodge of choice.

NAMIBIA

Upington Sun River Lodge is a perfect overnight stop between Gauteng and Namibia. From Upington you can reach the capital city Windhoek within a single day. Windhoek Country Club and Casino is without doubt the best hotel in the city. From Windhoek you can reach the Damaraland area or Kunene district within a day. Palmwag Lodge on a private game reserve will be an excellent option in this area..

ZIMBABWE

Upington is not on any common route to Zimbabwe, but if you plan to drive via Botswana from Cape Town to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, the Upington Sunriver Lodge will be a excellent overnight stop. In Victoria Falls you can choose accommodation or adventure activities. Among the hotels in the town of Victoria Falls Ilala Lodge is our favourite. It is a modern boutique hotel and it is very near the falls. From Victoria Falls you will most likely visit Lake Kariba next. The Caribbea Bay Hotel and resort is on what could be called the "Riviera" of Southern Africa  and is highly recommended by the Sun River Lodge. So is Spurwing Island in the Matusadona Game Reserve which is a paradise for fishermen and game viewers.
